Vivian S. Lee, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A. is President of Health Platforms, Verily Life Sciences, an Alphabet company whose mission is to apply digital solutions that enable people enjoy healthier lives. A radiologist and healthcare executive, Lee also serves as a senior lecturer at Harvard Medical School, a senior fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and is authoring a book about improving the American healthcare system.
For six years, Lee led the University of Utah Health as Dean, SVP and CEO of the $3.5B integrated health system, academic campus, and health plan. The system was recognized for its health care innovations that enabled higher quality at lower costs (JAMA & editorial, NYT) and with higher patient satisfaction (NYT, HBR, NEJM), and in 2016, was ranked first among university hospitals in quality and safety (Vizient).
Elected to the National Academy of Medicine with ~200 peer-reviewed publications, Lee’s NIH-funded laboratory has developed novel methods for measuring kidney function and vascular disease with MRI. A healthcare leader, Lee serves on the Defense Health Board of the Department of Defense, the Journal Oversight Committee for JAMA, the Board of Directors of the Commonwealth Fund, and is also a director on the board of Zions Bancorporation, a publicly traded company.
Dr. Lee is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard, received a D.Phil in medical engineering from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, earned her M.D. with honors from Harvard Medical School, and received her MBA program from NYU.
Deepak Ahuja joined Verily in 2020 as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Previously, he served as CFO of Tesla from 2008 to 2015 and from 2017 to 2019. One of Tesla’s longest-serving executives, Deepak played a role in the company’s rise from startup to a large cap energy company. Deepak was Tesla’s first finance chief and helped guide it through its IPO in addition to raising several billion dollars of capital to fuel its growth. Prior to Tesla, he was at Ford Motor Company for 15 years, which provided him experiences in manufacturing, marketing & sales, product development, treasury, and acquisitions/divestitures.
Deepak was named CFO of the year in 2010 for small public companies by Silicon Valley Business Journal. In 2014, he was named Bay Area CFO of the year for large public companies by San Francisco Business Times. Deepak holds an M.S. in industrial administration from Carnegie Mellon University, an M.S. in materials engineering from Northwestern University and a B. Tech in ceramic engineering from Banaras Hindu University in India.
Denny Weinberg serves as Chief Executive of Coefficient.
Denny is a veteran executive, having spent 35 years in health care financing and operations. Prior to serving as CEO of Coefficient, his background included a four-year tenure as CEO of Hixme, a digital health benefits platform for large employers, and a 20-year tenure with Wellpoint (Anthem), serving as CEO for a number of its nationwide insurance companies. In his earlier career, Denny served Deloitte Consulting for six years as a consultant in the insurance, benefits and healthcare industries, and he spent six years as chief engineer and general manager of the CTX division of IC Industries.
Denny’s private equity board involvements have included serving on the boards of Renal Ventures Management, Applied Merchant Systems, Westlake Davvar, and Skyview Development. He has also held startup advisory and/or board positions with Outpatient, Focal Scan Systems, and Hixme.
Denny’s public company board involvements have included Dole Food Company, Salem Communications Corp, Health Management, Inc. and Wellpoint/Anthem.
Angelo Masciantonio is an early-stage advisor and investor who has joined Coefficient as a Board Executive.
In 2015, Angelo retired after serving for 18 years as CEO and chairman of GeoBlue, a company he co-founded. Angelo was also a founding CEO for the Worker’s Comp Advantage (WCA) subsidiary of Aetna U.S. Healthcare and was the founder, CEO and chairman of Managed Health Care Services (MHCS). During his career, he additionally worked at Advanced Systems Applications (ASA), Pacific Mutual Insurance (now Pacific Life) and Blue Cross of Massachusetts, and he managed the neurology and neurosurgery division at Boston Children’s Hospital.
As an early-stage investor, Angelo has invested in several technology and health care startups and venture funds over the last three decades.
Angelo received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year honor in 2009 for the Philadelphia region, after being a finalist four times prior.
He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Boston University and the University of Pennsylvania, respectively.
Andrew Conrad, PhD, is the Chief Executive Officer of Verily where he oversees an integrated team of engineers, scientists, designers, and medical experts working on a wide spectrum of healthcare-related projects. Previously, he was Chief Scientific Officer of Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp). Dr. Conrad co-founded the National Genetics Institute, where he served as Chief Scientific Officer. He is a Working Group Member on the Precision Medicine Initiative and a member of the UCSF-Stanford Center of Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation (CERSI) Scientific Advisory Board.
Pete Bohn serves as an Underwriting Executive for Coefficient.
Bringing extensive expertise to his position, Pete is an insightful evaluator of health risk and has a deep understanding of the financial context of underwriting performance in the financial evaluation of companies. He is skilled at developing key underwriting manuals, memoranda and the process documentation necessary for meeting key audit requirements. He is also an articulate analyst of insurance data with exceptional skill in transforming that data into persuasive arguments for corporate planning.
Prior to joining the Coefficient team, Pete spent 23 years at GeoBlue (formerly HTH Worldwide), beginning as Director of Information Technology and moving up to vice president of underwriting.
Rob Howard serves as Sales and Account Management Executive for Coefficient, overseeing product development, marketing, sales and account management.
Rob has stood out as a successful sales leader for three decades. His resume includes serving for 18 years as the director of student and corporate sales and account management at GeoBlue (formerly HTH Worldwide), an international specialty risk company; early in his career, he served for 10 years as Eastern Sales Director for Namico.
Rob excels at building teams and bringing innovation to the marketplace – skills he began honing early in his professional life as a teacher and coach. When his career path took him to the business world, Rob still continued to be involved in education, serving for 20 years on the board of A Better Chance, a residential program for academically talented, economically disadvantaged teenagers. Rob’s civic service activities also include volunteering for the Hunger Committee at his church and as a judge’s clerk for the Philadelphia Flower Show, the oldest and largest flower show in the United States.
Alex Wood serves as Operations Executive for Coefficient.
Alex is a senior IT and operations executive with a proven track record in the healthcare and technology industries. He spent seventeen years at GeoBlue (formerly HTH Worldwide), helping build the company from just 35 employees to more than 400 and coordinating and helping lead the company through two major mergers with larger organizations.
Alex has broad technical knowledge, including in the areas of security, mobile app development, service-oriented architecture, cloud technologies and database management. He is a proven leader with the ability to attract, retain and mentor talented employees.
Alex completed his bachelor’s degree at Haverford College.
